Tons of Natural Light The HGTV Dream House 2015 great room is a light, open area with a traditional neutral colour palette. "The excellent room structure is that new contemporary way of living, that wouldn't have occurred in New England," explains interior designer Linda Woodrum. "There could have been little, dark, boxy rooms, but all of us recognize that we live in this new manner where there's this wonderful open space."

Open Layout Great Room This magnificent two-story area is completely breathtaking, joining with all the dining room for a contemporary, open texture. "We wanted to keep it open, light and airy feeling," says Linda. "This was a target -- to develop into a really traditional house and have this real nice, light sense. We kept the palette quite mild."

Extra Seating Located in Martha's Vineyard, this gorgeous home is certain to be a charm for guests throughout the year. Linda maintained in mind when dressing the great room with furniture. Extra seats by each door could be brought into the center for guest and look good on their own.

Breathtaking Views Multiple sets of French doors line the excellent room, showing off the magnificent view outside and allowing more natural light to brighten up the room.

Upgraded Cape Cod Style Overall, each facet of this HGTV Dream Home 2015 great room is designed to be a glowing, beautiful space with an updated take on traditional Cape Cod style. "it's very clean, crisp, light and airy," says Linda. "We didn't get into that exact heavy traditional look. It's a really modern interpretation."

Beautiful Built-ins On both sides of the stone fireplace, built in bookshelves add architectural character and offer the ideal place for decor and books.

Natural Light Source Massive windows, including many skylights, strategically placed throughout the space maintain this family-friendly space atmosphere bright and open throughout the year.

Classic Elegance "When we had been furnishing the house, we jazzed it up a bit," explains Linda. "We've got a conventional living room with an advantage, and we maintained it quite monochromatic with grays, whites and blacks. We pulled in a few of the gloomy because we know we are in a resort area, and we wanted to celebrate that sort of sense."

Subtle Coastal Vibe Coastal touches mixed with a white and blue color palette allude to the house's Cape Cod location and give away a fun, fresh vibe in this frequent area.

A Rustic Touch Antique vaulted beams brings a rustic charm to the spacious living room, although the two-story high ceiling contributes to the room's spacious, airy design.

Lovely and Local "Two big paintings on both sides of front door were sourced everywhere -- much of this artwork in the home is neighborhood," says Linda.

A Natural Flow Open doorways bring the entire first floor with each room feeling as an extension of the past, making this Cape Cod home the perfect location for entertaining.

Cape Cod Blue According to Linda, "The inspiration for the blue in this room came in the import ware (blue and white jars), which was really part of the background of Martha's Vineyard."

Great Flooring Hardwood flooring connect each room, creating a natural flow from room to room.

Welcoming Sight Since the front door opens directly into the magnificent great room, guest get the perfect first impression of the bright, open home.

Smart and Stylish Fabric A lot of the great room furniture was upholstered in Sunbrella fabric, making it both fashionable and simple to maintain.

Nautical Accessories Driftwood accessories can be found throughout the space for a nod to the house's nautical surroundings. The backs of the built-in bookshelves were painted grey to produce the decoration pop from a dark backdrop.

Light at Night Hidden lighting above the shelves retains the spacious room light even after dark. "On the darkest of dark times as it has been raining, it still feels bright and light and airy," says Linda. "I believe that for this area of the country, it is ingenious. It only has a very amazing quality of life when you are within the home in this great room."

Party on the Patio Great for enjoying hot nights with family or entertaining a large group, the French doors open up to the terrace outside, a space that offers even more seating and acts as an extension of the wonderful room.

Light Around Every Corner A clerestory window above the fireplace and shelves is a fascinating focal point that adds brightness to your space. "The light in this house is phenomenal, and I believe everybody that comes in comments on how bright and airy it is," says Linda.

Antique Ceiling Beams The classic beams unite with a classic beadboard ceiling to make interest and add cottage charm to the gorgeous white great room.

Seating for All The great room is distinguished by ample seating with clean lines and a warm, relaxing color palette. "We didn't want to have so much furniture it felt overwhelmingly furnished," says Linda. "This was the design choice -- to be certain we could adapt people without making it jumbled."
